Being a Schola Cantorum chorister provides boys with a wide variety of opportunities. They receive an excellent training which could lead to Senior School music scholarships, and sing in concerts in the UK and further afield. Recent tours have included France (2017 and 2012) and The Netherlands (2015).  They also participate in regular television and radio broadcasts and CD recordings.

They develop self reliance and self discipline and benefit from working as part of a team and performing to a very high standard. The choristers attend Dean Close Preparatory School and enjoy all the facilities the school has to offer. All choristers play at least one instrument and receive free singing lessons.

Choristers rehearse on five mornings each week and before the services they sing. There are occasional weekend and holiday commitments but no regular Christmas or Easter commitments.

At audition we are looking for a clear voice, a quick musical ear and an enthusiasm for singing. Candidates will be asked to sing a hymn or song of their choice and undertake some ear tests. They do not have to have had any previous musical training. The audition happens at the same time as academic testing for the school.
